Ever since I read (listened to) the Sweet Potato Queens Book of Love, I have been dying to try Pig Candy. Well, luckily, I got to try it out first hand at the SPQ Million Queen March Weekend......it was everything I had dreamed it would be. While reading (and listening to, just because it's soooo much more entertaining hearing it all in HRH Queen Boss Jill's own voice) the Sweet Potato Queens Big Ass Cookbook and Financial Planner, I came up with the clever idea of doing a blog just like Julie Powell did with the Julia Childs recipes. So here we go.....follow my progress as I attempt to whip up each of the tried, true and tested recipes loved by the SPQ.

Love Lard Trouble Monkey

Continuing on with my SPQ Big Ass Cookbook Project, another girl's night found me showing up with a potent concoction called Trouble Monkey and an appetizer made with bacon (what else?) called Love Lard. Both were a huge hit! The Trouble Monkey is a mixture of Absolut Mandarin, cranberry juice, fresh squeezed oranges and a splash of 7-Up. I made up a 2 quart batch using the entire bottle of vodka and placed it in the freezer (without the 7-Up) to let it get slushy. Just before serving the splash of 7-Up was added. I had enough left over from Friday night to entertain my friend C-bo on Saturday night - it held up to its name, "Trouble Monkey"......C-bo swears she is never drinking ever again. The Love Lard was in a class all by itself! Little bacon appetizers you just pop in your mouth and then, sit back and melt in your seat. A strange combination of ingredients: white bread, mushroom soup and bacon - I know, you're probably thinking "eewww"! But trust me, these little boogers are to die for - And.....well, with all that fat and cholesterol, you just might!
